MYA Woman Driving

When can I drive after my procedure?

There are a few temporary lifestyle changes that need to be taken into consideration following your cosmetic surgery procedure. MYA provide pre and post-operative guidelines to keep our patients safe and ensure the best quality of care. It is important that patients follow the instructions provided by their surgeon and MYA healthcare team, to ensure the best possible outcome.

Why can’t I drive following my cosmetic surgery procedure?

It is important that patients have recovered from both the anaesthetic and surgery before they are able to drive. This is to ensure that they have returned to their normal coordination and movement without any pain or discomfort – this is for their own safety and of others on the road.

This is to also avoid damage or injury to the affected area. If you have undergone a breast procedure such as a breast enlargementbreast uplift or breast reduction, you may experience discomfort and swelling of the chest following your procedure. It is important not to put too much strain on your upper body or risk pulling any muscles during this time, therefore we recommend patients speak to their MYA clinical team before returning to driving.

Patients with children that need to be dropped off and picked up from school, should aim to plan alternative travel methods post-procedure. It may also be helpful to book an online grocery delivery slot and have your food shop delivered to your home to avoid having to drive to the supermarket during your recovery.

When can I return to driving after my procedure?

We recommend that patients can return to driving 14 days after their surgery. It is important that patients follow the advice given by their surgeon and MYA clinical team and check with their insurance provider before returning to driving.

Following major surgery such as a tummy tuck procedure, patients are required to rest and take it easy for up to 2 weeks post-operatively, but some patients may choose to wait longer before returning to driving following their procedure.

MYA also advise patients to take it easy when returning to driving any vehicle following a cosmetic surgery procedure and aim to avoid long distance journeys in the early stages of recovery.

It is important that patients feel comfortable and confident before returning to driving, and to follow the advice from their healthcare team. It is important patients consider their safety and the safety of others on the road, for example being able control their vehicle e.g., being able to carry out an emergency stop. The MYA clinical team are always on hand if patients are concerned or want to ask any questions.
