What is a face and neck lift?
A face and neck lift procedure removes the excess facial skin from the neck, chin, and cheeks, to create a tighter look and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
While a facelift is the most popular type of facial surgery, a chin lift and neck lift can also be performed in the same session to further tighten areas of concern.
Many patients both male and female, choose facial, neck, or chin surgery because it can wake up a tired face, creating a natural, bright, expression.
Like any procedure, a facelift is a big decision, and the MYA team will provide you with all the information you need to make an informed choice.
How much does a facelift cost?
Facelifts prices start from £9,145. For further information on Facelift costs click here.
This is not a fixed price and can vary between patients. During your e-consultation, you will be given a guide price, with the total cost given to you during your surgeon consultation, based on your unique needs and desired result.
Some patients choose to also undergo chin lift surgery to further tighten sagging skin and remove facial fat around the face for a more defined, contoured look.
Benefits of a face and neck lift procedure
Face and neck lifts on the lower part of the face create a more youthful appearance and a sharper profile.
This has the ability to increase confidence in patients, as they no longer have to stick to wearing high-neck tops or scarves to cover up an area they're self-conscious of.
Lifting and tightening the skin on the face and neck also makes makeup application easier. Creams and powders can sit seamlessly on the skin on a newly smoothed canvas, without creasing in lines and wrinkles.
Facelift Surgery
A neck, chin, or facelift involves the skilful hands of a specialist surgeon to remove excess facial skin from the neck, chin, and cheek areas under general anaesthetic. The procedure can also be known as rhytidectomy and can take between 2-4 hours to complete, with complex cases sometimes taking up to 6 hours.
After the surgery, you will be required to stay in one of MYA's fully-equipped hospitals for 1 or 2 nights to rest and recover.
All MYA procedures require an in-depth pre-op medical assessment. If you are over the age of 55, you may also be required to have an ECG prior to your procedure.
Facelift scars will be hidden behind your ears in your hairline and will fade over time. After a facelift procedure, you will find that your hairline has been “lifted” - and if you have a beard, the growth will be closer to and extend back below the ear. The muscle and its fibrous attachment are secured tightly in front and behind the ear as an extra sling under the chin.
While a facelift tends to focus on the lower half of the face, a brow lift can be carried out alongside a facelift procedure to treat sagging eyebrows and forehead wrinkles. If you have a brow lift, the scars will be hidden in the hairline, so they're not visible.

Facelift recovery
A facelift takes around 3 months to fully heal.
Post-op, you will be required to attend a series of appointments with our nurses, who will monitor healing progress and deliver wound care. The first appointment is usually 4-7 days after your surgery, but you may be required to attend more if and when advised by your surgeon or nurse.
It's common for facelift patients to experience some bruising and swelling after the procedure. This is completely normal and is the body's way of healing.
You will also be provided with a post-op garment to assist the healing process. This protects the wounds and gives gentle compression to the area to maximise results.
You must keep your wounds dry at all times for 7 days post-op and shouldn't wash your hair for 2 weeks or until your nurse confirms your wounds are healed. You can wash around the area during this time, and if it does get wet, gently pat it dry with a clean towel.
Remember, every patient heals differently. Some may have more noticeable scarring and can experience asymmetry during the initial recovery period. This should usually even out over time as the tightness subsides.
Some minor hair loss is expected if surgery is completed around the hairline, but it starts to grow back for most patients after around 3 weeks.
In terms of life after surgery, you are advised to avoid short-haul flights for at least 4 weeks or 8 weeks for longer flights. After 6 weeks post-op, you can return to the gym, but it's recommended you start back with easy activities and heavy lift with caution. This can be discussed with your surgeon.
