What to pack for your hospital trip

What will I need on the day of my procedure? 

MYA will provide a list of pre-op requirements and things you need to do to prepare for your surgery, you can locate this on your MYA patient portal. In the meantime, here is a few of our top packing guide tips:

• A face mask to wear when entering the hospital (covid-19 restrictions).

• Phone charger and phone to take pre-op pictures and check in with friends and family. 

• Button up PJs or comfy clothes to wear in hospital and for discharge.  

• Ipad/book to keep you entertained before you go into theatre. 

• V-pillow. 

• Post-op bra or compression garments (dependent on your procedure).

• Some comfy socks or slippers. 

• Dressing gown or something cosy in case you get chilly. 

• For the ladies with long hair- don’t forget to pack a non-metal hair bobble to tie your hair up with. 

• Tooth brush/mouth wash. 

• Snacks for post-op – you will be provided with something to eat and drink after your operation but it’s always nice to have your favourite snacks on hand! 

What can I do at home to prep for my procedure? 

• Organise childcare – you might want some help around the house following your procedure if you have little ones. There are driving restrictions in place for certain procedures so you may need to organise help with the school runs.  

• Meal prep tasty and healthy meals for your first week post-op – it’s always nice to have meals ready to pop in the oven and not have to spend.  

• Make a list of movies and Netflix shows to binge watch. 

• Clean and prep all your comfy loungewear ready for your recovery. 

• Move all your daily products and self-care goodies to your bedside table so they are easily accessible. 

• Stock up on pain relief, face wipes and ice packs.
