Having a Breast Enlargement during the Coronavirus pandemic:
For those of you who are feeling a little worried about having your surgery during a pandemic, we thought we'd share one of our amazing patients, Nadine's story with you to help offer reassurance and put your mind at ease.
How was your initial eConsultation?
"My initial eConsultation was so informative, having spent years contemplating whether or not to have surgery at all, I was really unsure and worried that the consultation would be a sales pitch and ultimately feel pressured into booking something there and then. It was the complete opposite! My consultant was so helpful, kind and I felt like she asked plenty of questions about my personal situation. I finished the consultation feeling happy and satisfied with my choice of company and excited for the next step."
Why did you decide to have a procedure?
"After my first child 9 years ago, my breasts have always felt empty. I was a B cup and went up to a DD when pregnant, which I absolutely loved, but once my daughter was born they disappeared again and were even smaller than before. My weight fluctuated a bit over the next few years and 3 years ago I had another child. I lost all of my baby weight and more and I’m now at my slimmest I’ve ever been (happily!) but unfortunately, I had absolutely no boobs, at all. I’ve always hated the way they looked but I kept finding excuses not to go ahead. 2020 was looking to be a pretty rubbish year when I made an initial enquiry and I decided now was my time! Something good would come from this year one way or another."
How did you find having a procedure during the pandemic?
"My experience has been so easy. I expected it to be a lot more difficult or to get cancelled along the way. But everything has been a breeze. I’ve been kept up to date with everything and although my surgery was moved back a week, I completely understood the reasoning behind it and was offered the best available date and kept informed."
Were there any COVID measures put in place?
"Having to wear a face mask to all appointments including the day of surgery, not being able to take anyone with me, taking minimal items into the hospital, having COVID symptom questions asked before entering buildings."
Did you feel safe and comfortable during your journey?
"Yes I did. Everyone was in masks and making sure everywhere is clean and sanitised, it’s a way of life now and is common in most places. Having less people around when waiting for appointments is always a bonus!"
Did you feel reassured by MYA that it was safe to have your procedure?
"Yes I did. I knew that MYA had cancelled some surgeries prior to mine due to the lockdown restrictions and that certain procedures would have to be changed in order for surgeries to go ahead safely. Their online presence and information on the website also kept me up to date with what was happening. I had phone calls from the admin staff too which was very reassuring."
How did you find attending your local clinical hub for your post-op care?
"The Manchester clinical hub was very quiet, clean and felt safe and comfortable. The appointments are quick and easy. I enjoy having minimal people around and short waiting times!"
How do you feel about your results?
"I am in love with my results. Mr Traynor has given me a boost of confidence that I can’t put into words. I have always wanted to do this for ME and now I have, I can easily say it was the best decision I’ve made. My only regret is not having it done many years ago when I first considered the surgery."
What was the best part of your MYA journey?
"The best part for me was my surgery day. The staff at the First Trust hospital were so lovely and we were all buzzing with excitement. I was an afternoon case and I was still made to feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. I remember waking up, looking down and just crying with joy at what I saw. I love seeing everyone’s journeys on Instagram and I would do it again tomorrow in a heartbeat."
