Is it cheaper to go abroad for cosmetic surgery?
When looking at the cost of cosmetic surgery, providers in the UK are often more expensive than ones abroad in countries like Turkey. Although cheaper prices may initially seem appealing, we urge patients to take their time and research the cosmetic surgery provider, surgeons and their aftercare plans thoroughly.
Cosmetic surgery abroad is often cheaper due to the fact they provided limited or no aftercare, and their healthcare is not as strictly regulated as in the UK which allows for reduced costs and prices.
It's also important to remember that patients should avoid flying for 4 weeks following their procedure, as flying can increase the risk of developing DVT or a pulmonary embolism. No cosmetic surgery procedure is without risk, if you have surgery abroad and experience complications or need emergency medical care your surgeon is in another country and you may need to travel to see them.
UK cosmetic surgery providers have the highest standard of patient care at the forefront of their services, all surgeons are GMC registered, our facilities and hospitals are regularly inspected by the CQC and have extensive patient aftercare plans in place. MYA was rated OUSTANDING by the CQC (Clinical Quality Care Commission) in 2022.
Can you get cosmetic surgery on the NHS?
Cosmetic surgery procedures are not routinely provided by the NHS for cosmetic reasons. In the past, there were cases where patients were able to have procedures such as otoplasty, rhinoplasty and complex breast surgery under the NHS, however, there is no longer funding for these procedures and it is very rare.
The NHS provide reconstructive and corrective procedures to patients following an accident, illness or birth defect. Reconstructive surgery is not deemed as cosmetic, therefore, patients will not have to pay for their procedure.
Most patients who speak to their GP's about cosmetic surgery with the NHS will most likely be referred to private cosmetic surgery providers such as MYA.
