Finding the right size for you
Trying to navigate the online shopping world to find a regular bra to fit you can be pretty stressful sometimes, so we understand how shopping for a post-surgery bra can be equally as confusing, if not worse, because you've got to estimate what your new cup size might be.
Here at MYA, we like to make things that little bit easier for you, so we have created a post-op bra size guide to help you out!
What type of bra should I wear post-op?
Aftercare is vital after undergoing a breast augmentation. Wearing surgical bras ensure your breast implants are supported, so you can avoid discomfort and aid the healing process correctly.
Surgical bras tend to have comfortable yet robust shoulder straps and extra room for growth around the breast to cater to the 'drop and fluff' process. Providing a suitable level of compression and being available in a range of sizes, post-op bras are key when it comes to recovery.

Macom expert Nadja explains the benefits of wearing a post-op bra
How long should I wear my post-surgery bra?
The initial recovery period lasts around 6-8 weeks for breast augmentations. It is vital that you follow your surgeons post-op instructions, and continue to wear your post-op bra for the recommended time, failure to do so after your procedure may hinder the result.
You should be wearing your post-op bra day and night during this time frame, only removing it to wash (yourself and the bra). MYA recommends buying two bras, so you can wear one while the other is in the wash!
It's important to know that everyone heals at different rates, therefore patients shouldn’t rush into getting measured for new bras, as the breasts can continue to drop and fluff and change for up to 8 weeks or longer.
When can I get measured for a bra following my breast surgery?
Following surgery such as breast enlargement, breast uplift or breast reduction, patients are often eager to go shopping for pretty new bras. Another thing to look forward to once you are fully healed is getting your new bra size measurement!
Navigating the world of bra sizes is difficult at the best of times, following breast surgery you will need to be remeasured to find your new post-op bra size. We advise that you should consult your MYA nurse before going to get measured for any new bras.
It is important to remember that bra sizes can vary from store to store, so don’t be disheartened if you measure smaller than you were expecting. Focus on what feels supportive and comfortable rather than the size you measure.
You can also measure your bra size in the comfort of your own home - all you need is a measuring tape and your boobs...easy! We created a blog talking you through 'How to measure your bra size at home' if you don't want to go into a store. It tells you how to find your cup size and band size with a fabric tape measure.
There are also specialists in underwear stores that can help you. They're all trained professionals and offer a friendly approach to make you feel at ease. It's completely normal to feel nervous during this, but they've seen every shape and size of breasts so you have nothing to worry about.
During a bra measuring appointment, you'll be able to keep your bra on while they measure the fullest part of your chest and underneath to find the band size. You can also try on a few different bras to find the best fit and find one you feel comfortable in, with the assistance of an expert.
What type of bra should I wear after the boob job recovery period?
It is very important that you continue to wear a supportive sports bra when exercising, this includes light exercise such as walking and yoga and high-impact sports.
MYA recommend that patients ease themselves back in, with low-impact exercise, with no rigorous movements or strain to the bust.
One of our patients put a blog together talking about their journey and mentioned some of their favourite sports bras in various styles to suit you. Here are the '4 Best Sports Bras for Augmented Breasts'.
