Boob job
Many patients come to MYA with expectations of what procedure they would like to have, but once speaking with their surgeon and learning more about the characteristics of their breasts, this can sometimes change.
For example - a patient may want perky fuller breasts but they present with heavy bell breasts pre-op. The patient may be under the impression that they would have a breast enlargement with large implants, but in reality a breast uplift is required to achieve "perky" breasts that sit higher on the chest.
Your MYA surgeon will examine your breasts, take measurements and recommend a treatment plan that is tailored to your unique requirements. Depending on your start point, you may require a combination of two different procedures, such as a breast augmentation with a mastopexy (breast uplift).
What are the different types of breast?
Genetics, past medical history, weight and hormone levels can all play a part in the position and shape of a patient’s breasts and nipples. Due to the vast experience of our MYA experts, we are able to offer a broad range of uniquely tailored procedures to match every breast shape and desired result.
When examining your breasts the surgeon is looking to see if you present with certain characteristics and features to determine what procedure will be suitable for you, such as, the presence and degree of ptosis, skin elasticity, tubular breasts, nipple position or asymmetry.
To help you identify what pre-op breast shape you are, we've created some examples below.
Different breast shapes:
Asymmetric
Slender
Low bell
Relaxed
East west tubular
Wide set
Low set
Side set
Heavy bell
Close set
Breast anatomy
The female breast is a complex structure of tissue, fat, lobules and ducts that connect together to form a breast. Glandular tissue in the lobules creates breast milk that is transported via the mammary ducts to the areola.
Breast health
Breast health is extremely important for all women, here at MYA we like to encourage patients to get to know what's normal for them. The better you understand what your breasts look and feel like throughout your monthly cycle the more likely you are to identify any sudden changes.
If you have undergone breast surgery or have breast implants you need to learn what your NEW normal is. You should still check your breasts regularly and in the same way. If you would like more information on how to perform a self-examination of your breasts - check our YouTube!
Signs and symptoms to look out for:
Change in size or shape in one or both breasts
A lump or thickening of the skin
Changes in skin texture such as puckering or dimples
Redness or a rash on the skin or around the nipple
Sudden nipple inversion or change in direction
Nipple discharge
Constant or unusual pain in the breast or armpit
Swelling in your armpit or collarbone
If you notice a change in any of the above, consult your GP for more guidance.
