What is liposuction?
Liposuction (also known as fat removal or body contouring) is a cosmetic procedure that removes unwanted body fat cells beneath the skin.
It's used to give a more shapely appearance to areas of the body that are resistant to traditional weight loss techniques like diet and exercise. Lipo helps patients achieve a smoother and more contoured look, as well as reducing cellulite dimpling or stretch marks.
Here at MYA, we offer traditional liposuction, vaser liposuction and microaire liposuction. The best liposuction procedure for you will be discussed during your consultations.
Benefits of liposuction
Liposuction has a wide range of benefits, but overall, it gives patients a new lease of life, noticeably increasing their self-confidence. From the chin to the outer thigh, all the way down to the ankles, this minimally invasive procedure can give you the body shape of your dreams
Lipo gives patients a wider choice of clothing, as they no longer have to cater for areas of excess fat or feel like they have to cover the areas they're self-conscious about. It can also help to prevent excess sweating and chafing, as the problem areas are slimmed down.
As long as patients maintain a healthy diet and exercise routinely, lipo can have lasting benefits and results.s and results.
Liposuction areas
Arm liposuction
Arm liposuction is used to reduce the size of the arms.
Many people struggle with the size of their arms, especially if they’re not in proportion with the rest of their body. Because of this, they often avoid short-sleeved tops and feel insecure when wearing swimwear.
Undergoing arm liposuction reduces excess skin on the arms, boosting self-esteem and diminishing the need to cover up.
Chin liposuction
When it comes to double chin removal, chin liposuction is a common procedure to remove excess fat.
While facial massage techniques have their benefits, they’re only temporary. Chin lipo can be combined with a facelift to improve the contours of the face and tighten the jawline, reducing the appearance of a double chin.
Not only does this mean you can say goodbye to lengthy contouring techniques in the morning, but it also means you’ll look younger, fresher, and firmer.
It’s important to bear in mind that liposuction isn’t for everyone and depends on how much fat there is under the chin. During your consultation, a MYA surgeon may recommend a facelift instead if they don’t think you need chin liposuction.
Did you know the neck is one of the first parts of the body to show signs of ageing?
Neck liposuction or a neck lift may also be recommended alongside chin liposuction, to further create a youthful appearance.

Thigh liposuction
Excess fat on the thighs can cause more problems than you may first think. It can lead to painful chafing and rashes, especially in hot weather - which, in extreme cases, can cause infections.
Shapewear and anti-chafing shorts are available, but they aren’t the prettiest or most comfortable and often stick out underneath skirts and dresses.
Unwanted body fat can also appear on the outer thighs, creating an uneven shape and banana roll under the bum.
Removing excess fat reduces the overall size of the thighs and creates a much slimmer look, making hot weather much more bearable and increasing self-esteem when wearing tighter clothing.
Stomach liposuction
The upper and lower abdomen are popular areas for liposuction.
Doing regular ab exercises can tighten the muscles underneath, but this doesn’t necessarily reduce fat or improve the look of the stomach.
Stomach lipo is used to remove the upper layer of fat covering the stomach to unveil a more contoured and defined area.
Stomach liposuction before and after
Back, flanks (love handles), and hips
The back and hip area can hold onto excess fat, causing a shapeless figure - often referred to as love handles or muffin tops.
Flanks liposuction reshapes this for a more curvaceous look, creating an hourglass figure.
Ankles liposuction
Do your cankles get in the way of wearing strappy sandals or heels?
Ankle liposuction is the solution.
Removing the fat on and around the ankles slims down their appearance, reducing insecurities and increasing your choice of footwear.
Knee liposuction
Knee liposuction is the process of removing fat deposits that sit on the inside of the knees. It’s common for patients to get this procedure in combination with thigh liposuction for an overall contour of the legs.
While liposuction can’t completely remove cellulite or stretch marks, it can greatly reduce their appearance.
