Blepharoplasty is short procedure that can give patients a new lease of life, making their eyes appear open, rejuvenated and more youthful.
Eyelid surgery procedure is often carried out as a day case procedure but this is subject to the individual’s needs and confirmed during surgeon consultation.
The procedure takes place under general anaesthetic. If you choose lower blepharoplasty, an incision is made under the lower lashes along the lash line or just inside the eyelid where excess tissue is then removed. With the upper blepharoplasty procedure, an incision is made along the natural crease of the eyelid, and surplus tissue is then taken away.
Aftercare is most important within the Blepharoplasty surgery steps. Attending your pre-arranged follow-up appointments is extremely important post-op, so the clinic nurse can monitor healing after blepharoplasty surgery. They will also remove sutures between 7-14 days.
It is advised to wear dark glasses when outside for the first 2 weeks as it will help protect the area from UV rays. The area must be kept clean and dry at all times during this healing period to avoid infection.
If you have any issues post eyelid surgery, MYA offers a 24-hour emergency service line with one of our highly qualified nurses to assist with any medical concerns outside of the clinic opening hours.
Often, droopy eyelids or puffiness under your eyes (eye bags) is hereditary or develops with age, and we know any cosmetic surgery takes a lot of thought and research. This is why MYA and our clinical team will provide you with all the information you will need to make an informed choice.
If you suffer from glaucoma or dry eyes you must consult an eye specialist or ophthalmologist prior to your consultation with a MYA surgeon.

Benefits of Blepharoplasty
The main benefits of blepharoplasty are to increase a patients confidence. Many people struggle with their self-esteem when they have saggy skin around their eyes and tell us they find social situations difficult and don’t like having their picture taken because of it.
By creating a smoother, brighter and more youthful appearance, patients will have a much more positive opinion of the way they look. It also becomes much easier for women to apply makeup and experiment with different looks, as there will be a more even canvas to work on.
In extreme cases, those with lots of excess skin on their upper eyelids can experience visual impairments, due to the skin hanging over the eye. Blepharoplasty removes this, improving the vision in those who struggle, adding to the eyelid lift benefits.
Cost and Financing options
Blepharoplasty surgery starts from £4,595.
Blepharoplasty cost is dependent on the individual and their requirements.
For example, some patients require lower blepharoplasty or upper blepharoplasty, whereas others choose to undergo double eyelid surgery, which will alter the cost.
For those looking for an affordable Blepharoplasty option, MYA offers a financing option to help split the cost. To find our more about eyelid surgery financing click here.
During your eConsultation, you will be given a guide price, and the final cost will be provided during the surgeon consultation at a MYA clinical hub.
Blepharoplasty recovery
Following your blepharoplasty procedure, you may experience some bruising and swelling. This tends to last around 7 to 21 days but varies within patients. You may experience some pain and discomfort post-surgery but this should subside within 7-14 days.
It is advised that you take at least 10 days off work following the procedure to aid recovery. If your job is more demanding, talk to your surgeon for advice on when it's best to return to work.
You will be scheduled for an appointment 4 to 5 days post-surgery to have the wounds checked. You must attend your appointment so your MYA nurse can make sure you’re healing correctly.
You are advised not to carry out any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for around 6 weeks post-surgery. Whether this is in the gym or at work, this is vital to avoid any adverse effects, such as inflammation, swelling or bleeding.
